My New Ride!!!

I've been driving a 2001 Honda Accord.


Last night, we traded it in for this.....

A 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It's pretty sweet. I was attached to the Accord and had a hard time turning it in especially when there was nothing wrong with it. It was in great condition. However, this is a fun vehicle!

We wanted to have something that had towing capabilities. After camping two weekends in a row, dealing with extremely cold weather and rainy weather, we thought we might like to purchase a camper of some kind. But we first needed something that could tow. So we now have something that can tow.

Funny story about the kids: When we went to sign the papers last night, we brought the kids with us. This was the first they had heard of us buying a new car. Daniel thought I was joking at first when he saw it. As we were driving home in the new car, Daniel and Megan both said they liked this car. They didn't like the Accord. When I asked them why they didn't like the Accord, they told me, "Because I don't like silver. Black is better." But then tonight as we were coming home from our Sunday excursion, Megan, out of the blue, says, "I don't like this car. I like the other one better." I asked her what she didn't like about it. Her response, "It's just dumb." That gave us a good laugh.

Perfect Game in Perspective

On Thursday, I told Daniel all about Mark Buehrle's perfect game. I took care to explain what a perfect game means, carefully describing the number of batters, no walks, etc. I told him that the last perfect game pitched at the major league level was a few weeks before he was born. Daniel listened to me very intently and I thought he was very interested. But the very second he could tell I had finished, he quickly asked Julie for more servings of dinner.

Julie and I both laughed as it was so evident where Daniel's focus had been. At least the lessons on manners are sinking in enough for him to let me finish before asking for more grub...

Back Yard Camping

Julie is out roughing it at girl's camp this week. (I use the term "roughing it" loosely as she's at the "Heber Hilton") Daniel, Megan and I decided to do our own version of outdoor adventure. Yesterday afternoon, we set up the tent and turned off the sprinklers. We went inside and had dinner, then back to the tent for FHE.

I had no idea how well the kids were going to sleep out there, so I kept them up a bit later than usual with a movie. Once we got out to the tent, we read a story (I forgot books of any kind, so I was lazy and looked something up on the internet from my itouch). We turned off all the lights at about 10:30. I went to sleep fully expecting to be up every hour or so with a kid wanting to go to the bathroom or being scared or something. I was wrong. They fell asleep and stayed that way until about 6:30 AM when the sun started assaulting our eyes. It was a wonderful night for all.

Another Monthly Challenge

Megan's Popcorn

Yesterday, we went to see Up! at the theatre with the kids. We got there pretty early and before the movie stared, Julie and Megan went for popcorn and drinks. Julie bought two drinks and a large popcorn. Now...how to carry it all? Julie took the two drinks, which left Megan with the large popcorn.

This tub of popcorn was sufficiently large that Megan could not wrap her arms all the way around it and touch her fingers together. It was also as tall as her torso. So when she walked into the theatre, it was the cutest sight I have seen in years: this tiny little girl with a HUGE tub of popcorn and an even bigger smile. If I would have had a camera that would have done justice in the dark, I would have posted a picture...but believe me when I say it was darling!
